You can create garden hooks for hanging indoor or outdoor plants by using your old spoons. Just bend them and flatten the spoons, then simply put them wherever you want to hang a planter. Use smaller spoons for the small plants and larger spoons or ladles for larger plants.

Decorative spoons make wonderfully unique Christmas ornaments. Simply hot glue ribbon to the handle of each one and hang them on your tree. This is an excellent idea for first baby spoons and you can have a special ornament on your tree for every child in your home. These are very inexpensive and very easy to make and will help you to create a stunning Christmas tree display and one that is very personal.

Since spoons technically belong in the kitchen, why not turn those old spoons into lovely decor that you can hang in the kitchen? Just choose a collection of spoons of all different sizes, paint them however you want and hang them in your kitchen area. For a really unique country look, tie them all up with twine and hang them from an old board. They look beautiful and you can customize them anyway you want when you are painting them.

This one is a bit more complicated but definitely worth it. You will need a relatively large board, however long you want your coat hook. Just flatten the spoons out, bend up the ends of the handles and affix them to the board with screws. You can use spoons that all match or mix it up a bit to make it really unique. If you want, you can even have the spoons personalized before you affix them with the names of everyone in your home.
And here few more ideas....

What is the best way to paint metal spoons? Use steel wool first? Would acrylics adhere to metal?

I think you are right about the steel wool! I found these instructions on E-how:

How to Paint Metal With a Brush Things You'll Need
Dish detergent or trisodium phosphate (TSP)
Rag
Bucket
Wire brush, steel wool, sandpaper or scraper
Primer
Paint

1
Clean the metal with soap and water; about 1 to 2 tsp. of dish detergent per gallon of water works well. You can also use trisodium phosphate (TSP), diluted according to manufacturer directions. Cleaning will get rid of the dirt, grease and any other grime on your metal.

2
Roughen the surface with a wire brush or steel wool. This will remove chipping metal and rust, as well as help the paint adhere to the surface. You can also use rough sandpaper or a scraper to help with this step. Rinse the dirt, dust and other debris away with water and allow the surface to dry completely.

3
Prepare the surface with a primer designed for metal and with rust-inhibiting features. Spray primer is best since it will leave a smooth finish. Spray outdoors on a calm, dry day if you can, or in a well-ventilated room. Spray in long even strokes and hold the can so it is parallel to the surface, applying the primer on the entire area. It does not have to look nice at this point. Allow the primer to dry before applying the paint, as indicated on the label.

4
Paint the metal with an oil-based paint that is specifically labeled for metal. Again, spray paint will look better than brush painting. Apply the spray paint evenly, as you did with the primer. Apply a second coat if the first coat does not entirely cover the metal as desired.
